JURY DUTY SCAM ALERT

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office is warning citizens of a scam involving false claims about missed jury duty. The scammer poses as local law enforcement or a court official and claims the person they are calling missed jury duty and faces arrest unless they pay a fine.

The scammer may demand payment through untraceable methods such as gift cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfers. They may also request personal information like your Social Security number or date of birth to steal your identity. To appear legitimate, they might provide fake badge numbers or case IDs.

Please be advised the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office does not seek any type of payment over the telephone.

If you are not contacted by a caller requesting money and claiming to be law enforcement, do NOT transfer any form of payment to the caller and contact law enforcement immediately.

If you have questions about a possible warrant, please call the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office (337) 232-9211.
